Meditation is Like Rebooting Your Computer

MEDITATION IS LIKE REBOOTING YOUR COMPUTER

I have been working on including more meditation in my day as one of my goals. I was watching Dr. Oz and he had a couple of psych type PhD people on the show talking about Attention Deficit Activity Disorder (ADHD) in adults (mostly women). It presents itself as distractability, disorganization, difficulty finishing projects, procrastination, impulsivity, feeling overwhelmed, anxious, forgetting what you were doing, restlessness, fidgiting, and consistently poor time management (I am thinking as I am watching this, they are going to diagnosis EVERYONE with this now!) They talked about medication and how 80 % of people get improvement with stimulant medication. Then something interesting was mentioned, MEDITATION, simply unplugging from the
race for 5 minutes, twice daily, deep breathing, emptying the mind from the heavy to do list and calming the "monkey mind." Guess how effect this was???? Just as effective as the medication!

Later I was thinking how when my computer slows down and sometimes freezes up when I have 30 windows and tabs open and I have to actually shut it down to restart it. That is just like my mind. Your mind can really benefit from periodically shutting down and getting quiet. Then when you start up again, all the programs run more smoothly and the emotions are just softer.

One website I have enjoyed for guided meditation is
http://www.innerhealthstudio.com/

I understand there are many forms of meditation and I think I will take a course on the transcendental method (I understand there is research to show huge benefits to this form of meditation and that it is one that people are most likely to be consistent with). Has anyone done the course and would you give it a thumbs up?

Other forms of meditation I have tried and enjoyed is mindfulness meditation. I do not enjoy mantra meditation, but maybe I am just underinformed how to get the benefit from this one.

Oh, I also enjoyed my eating meditations, those are fun and tasty. I think I had the best tasting strawberry in my life!!
